Come to My Hometown

Padang is my hometown. Padang is the capital and the famous city of West Sumatera, Indonesia. It is located on the Western coast of Sumatera. It has an wide of 694,96 square kilometers (268,3 sq mi ) and the population over 833,000 people. The town is quite nice and deserves a longer visit.

Padang has some pretty beaches. The most popular one is located south of Padang. The beaches are good for swimming boating or just watching fishing boats going out in the afternoon. Every Sundays, the beaches are usually crowded with families and youngster enjoying their weekly day off.

On the most famous attractions in Padang is the renowned “Nasi Padang”. Numerous restaurants serve it. One of the famous is Simpang Raya, which has branches throughout West Sumatera and Riau but also in other cities in Indonesia. When we sit down at a table, the waiter will fill the whole table with plates, containing Kari, chicken, and fish prepared in coconut curry, Rendang, meat in coconut gravy and Dendeng Balado, thin slices of dried and fried beef served with red chilies. Because of Padang cooking identical with hot taste.

Padang also has several houses built in traditional architecture, including Padang Mesuem, which house objects of cultural and historical interest. The main sight in the city include Adityawarman Museum in traditional Minangkabau house and featuring a good collection of antiques and the cultural center where we can see traditional dances every Sundays. It is an arts institute, which often stages Minang dances and Pencak Silat performance. The cultural center also offers free tours to the city. So, we can study and know much about Minangkabau culture too.

One more thing, there is not too much traffic jam unlike big cities. Padang is small and quite city. Padang is a good place for living. The cost of foodstuff is cheaper than other cities. My aunt is living in Pekanbaru. She said “If I don’t have job there, I prefer live in Padang than Pekanbaru”. She told me that all of things are very expensive there. She will buy a house here, because it is cheaper than buy it there. That is all about Padang my lovely hometown. What about you? If you visit Padang, you can make sure about all that I have told.
